What is a Steampunk Wedding?

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of getting to work on a steampunk wedding. I was only day of coordinator so I can not take any credit for the amazing talent and ideas that went behind this wedding, but it was an absolute pleasure to get to be a part of this day.

I will post about the wedding soon, but for now, i want to talk about Steampunk Weddings. When i announced i would be working on this themed wedding it seemed no one knew what it was all about! I think its high time the world did because they are AMAZING, so unique and fun.

The best way I have to describe it is....think Sherlock Holmes:

www.theprovince.com
Monocles, top hats, vests, vintage, darker, gloves, corsets and layered dresses....the Victorian Era.

As defined by Wikipedia, "Steampunk is  is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually Victorian era Britain or "Wild West"-era United States—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology, or futuristic innovations as Victorians might have envisioned them, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. This technology includes such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the contemporary authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld and China Mieville."

So you get the background now. How does one have a Steampunk wedding though?! That's the fun part!

I think eye candy would explain it best:

All photos are from Ruffled

From all the details you can see that because it is based on innovation, there are alot of trinkets, gadgets, clocks and a sense of flight. In the Victorian area, the hottest topic was after all flight and inventing it.

What is Steampunk?
I absolutely love the idea of a steampunk wedding (or any themed wedding for that matter!). I think it is so unique and fun. I can not wait to share the photos with all my readers of the Steampunk Wedding I was at.

Happy Planning!
