Uplighting

Ever heard of uplighting before...at a wedding?

I had not until I was devoured by the wedding world. It is one particular thing I had not anticipated having at my wedding but promptly fell in love with it upon review.

Basically, it is exactly what it sounds like....lights...up.

They look like this:

Not to fancy! I was going to try and do it for my wedding myself through this tutorial  but did not end up doing it do to the sheer fact that it was a zillion degrees in my venue and I figured the heat from these guys would not help the situation.

I think the lights are gorgeous though and for decoration purposes its a fairly simple and inexpensive way to bring a a venue from an old hall or room to something fabulous.

I just went a wedding last week where they used purple uplighting to cast a dramatic yet soft light to centre the alter. I have a weakness for purple so they got me there.

Here are some examples of uplighting that a feel covers the spectrum of soft and romantic to very bold and dramatic.

As you can see, there is tons of wiggle room to make this lighting option your own. Whether it be through colour, spacing of the lights or how strong they are.

Happy Planning!

  1. As of right now we are having a daytime reception so no need for uplighting...however...that can change!

@Miss Tattoo, lighting is always romantic, you could maybe do some subtle uplighting in smaller areas instead?

  4. Weddings are amazing and beautiful all by themselves but you always want something extra on your wedding day something that will pop and get the attention of your guests. I love the idea of
uplighting it gives any wedding great style and elegance.
